Once upon a time, forest dwellers enjoyed the richness of their habitat, and poverty was unknown to them.
The forest is everything to indigenous forest dwellers. SOMNEED tries to protect their lives by regenerating their habitat through plantation programs.
The forests give fruits and nuts for people to eat. People can sell them in the market. The branches can be used as firewood and the leaves are serve as fodders for their livestock. Then the forest works as a natural dam to store ground water and provides water throughout the year.
SOMNEED has been working together with people in India and Nepal as partners. The plantation programs are the major activities to improve the livelihood for indigenous forest dwellers who were cut off from their ancestral forest resources.
SOMNEED plants more than 15 varieties of indigenous trees. Local people take initiatives in every process of selection of the varieties.
